Widgeon grass has thin branched stems and sharp pointed leaves that are thread like. Flower spikes can emerge slightly and are brown to yellow.

Description

Widgeon grass has branched stems that are thin, whiteish or green, and grow up to three feet long. The sharp pointed leaves of widgeon grass are all submersed and grow up to four inches long and only two-hundredths of an inch wide, making them thread like. Flower spikes can emerge slightly from the water’s surface, are immobile, and can be brown to yellow in color.

 

Many duck species feast on the stems and leaves of widgeon grass.

Widgeon grass can be found in states that border the ocean.
