What We Do

When you sign up to have Lake Restoration treat your lake shore, we will apply for your permit through the Minnesota DNR, applying for the most area to be treated. Then, we’ll come to your property twice in the summer (once for a few certain lakes) and treat for weeds and algae that are present.

The first treatment is in June, and the second is four to five weeks later. We use a combination of herbicides and algaecides all approved with the EPA and the MN DNR. After assessing which target species you have, we perform the treatment accordingly and then send you a detailed report.

There are no swimming or fishing restrictions after application. Signs will be posted near the treatment area specifying any irrigation or other restrictions. Two to three weeks after we’ve been there, you should see at least 50% of the weeds dead. After Lake Restoration services, you’ll be able to enjoy your lake shore again!

Timing and Number of Treatments

Our lake home treatment program includes two treatments during the season. The first treatment is in June and the second treatment is four to five weeks later. This spacing provides season long control within your approved treatment site. Each treatment is tailored to your specific lakeshore. All the products that we use are EPA and DNR approved for aquatic usage and are applied by trained and state licensed staff.

DNR Permit

We apply for your permit through the Minnesota DNR. The $40 permit fee is added to your first invoice. This is a yearly fee because a permit is needed each year.

Area to be Treated

The Minnesota DNR allows up to half of your shoreline to be treated, and 100 feet from the shore out into the water. When applying for your permit, we will apply for the most treatment area possible. Here are some more specific examples:

  • If you own 50 feet or less of shoreline, the DNR allows up to 35 feet to be treated.

Goose Control

We offer installation and take-down of our patented Goose D-Fence system. This retractable fence uses two nylon lines that run across posts every 50 feet or so on your shoreline. Geese look for the easiest access to food and water and when they see the fence, they move on to another location.

Control of Cattails and Water Lilies

Treatments for floating and emergent plants such as water lilies or cattails cannot be made effectively until August. These treatments require a special permit and have an additional cost. Please call Lake Restoration at 763-428-9777 option 3 if these plants become a nuisance.

Sign up Dates and Promotions

Sign up before mid-April to allow us time to apply for your permit and receive it before our scheduled treatments begin.

Sign up before 2/28 to receive 2.5% off your bill and receive another 2.5% off if you choose to pay in full ahead of time. These options are noted on the sign up form. Do not send money until you receive an invoice. If checks are sent with early sign ups, we will hold on to them until the first invoice is created, which may be a few months later.

Pricing

Most lakes are billed per treatment. The first invoice will be generated before the first treatment, but after the permit is issued from the DNR. The second invoice is generated just after the second treatment mid-summer.

Results

The die-down of invasive plants after a pesticide treatment generally takes two to three weeks. This varies with target species, product used, product rate, and other factors. What does not vary is that Lake Restoration will execute the treatment program as effectively as possible.

Service Guarantee

If it has been two to three weeks since your lake shore treatment, take photos of the area. Also pull out one of each type of weed, lay them on a flat surface, and take close up pictures. We’ll have you email photos to us.

Certain plants such as Vallisneria and clasping leaf pondweed are not part of the guarantee. The service guarantee is outlined with your sign up form. Call us at 763-428-9777 option 3 with any further questions.

Enjoy a beautiful lakeshore without unsightly lake weeds!
