FAQ

What is pond dye used for?

Deep Blue dye for ponds is used to color the water and block portions of the UV light spectrum. This can improve your pond’s appearance, keep water temperatures cooler, and help maintain your pond’s health.

What is the active ingredient?

All of Lake Restoration’s dyes are food grade dye.

How to apply pond dye?

Simply pour the dye directly into the pond in multiple places.

Is pond shade safe for fish and wildlife?

Because our dyes are food grade, they are all safe for the fish, frogs, turtles, etc. in the pond as well as the animals that come visit.

Will pond colorant kill algae?

No, dyes do not kill any algae or plants that are already present. They filter the sunlight that is necessary for photosynthesis.

When should I apply pond color?

Add dye to your pond anytime. Re-application of pond dye (~1/4 to 1/2 of the initial dose) can be necessary 3-6 weeks later; rain, evaporation, breakdown, and other factors dilute the color of the dye.

When will I see results after applying Deep Blue dye?

Dye spreads throughout the entire body of water within a few hours.

How much dye do I need?

1 quart of Deep Blue dye covers 1 acre with a 4-foot average depth. Add more dye with deeper waters or to get a more vibrant color.

How long does dye last for ponds?

Dye lasts 30-60 days, depending on weather and outside conditions.

Is dye bad for ponds?

No, dye is completely safe for pond use. Lake Restoration dyes are food grade and have no restrictions.

Can I mix dyes?

Yes! Mix (4 parts) Deep  Blue and (1 part) Reflection Black for an even deeper blue, reflective look.

  2. Tom Cowan (verified owner)

One quart for my one acre pond is perfect for the whole season. Wear gloves!!

  3. julieporter144 (verified owner)

The liquid is the way to go! make sure you aren’t messy or you’ll look like a Smurf for days. The water stays blue for about 3 weeks. The one thing I have noticed, is that this stuff also clears the water significantly! It’s more than just a pretty color.

  4. adammartinovich (verified owner)

The packets did not work in my pond. I cut the packets open and spread the contents evenly around my pond. Lake restoration sent me the liquid and that works great.

  5. tabarnes1

Great product that keeps the pond a nice blue color.
